Attorney Steve® - 2021 Autodesk Software Dispute Updates - PRIOR VERSION RIGHTS LOST!

In some cases, if you do not keep up with your maintenance on a perpetual license from Autodesk, you can unwittingly lost the rights to access prior versions of their software. This can hurt a business that needs to access prior versions of AutoCAD or Revit, for example. Autodesk legal counsel will tell you ITS ALL THERE IN THE FINE PRINT, but this ends up stinging many companies hard when the "software auditors" (some call the "software cops") accuse you of software copyright infringement. This is not fun, believe me. I have found Autodesk to take a very un-flexible approach to handling these types of cases, demanding that companies pony up for licensing fees.
SOFTWARE AUDIT LETTER: If you have received a software infringement accusation letter from a law firm such as Donahue Fitzgerald or even a trade association knowns as the Business Software Alliance ("BSA"), call us to discuss your legal options. We are a leading copyright infringement law firm in the United States. We can help you resolve your software licensing compliance issues including but not limited to Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, IBM, Vero, Solidworks, Ansys, Siemens, and VB Conversion cases for many years. We have been in business since 2004 and have excellent client reviews.
Introduction
Most are not aware of this issue, and I see GOOD and HONEST Autodesk paying customer get unknowingly ROPED into this unfortunate situation.
Here is a short synopsis (more to follow as Autodesk aggressively goes after good paying clients) in software licensing dispute cases.
1. Per the EULA (which no one reads, nor would they understand if they did read) keeping your "MAINTENANCE" current has many advantages:
- Software Updates
- Support
- Previous version rights (which many companies need)
- Home use rights (especially important during Covid-19 pandemic)
- Additional "territory rights" (mostly useful to business that operate in other countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Canada
If you fail to renew, and Autodesk finds out, you can face an audit or receive a demand letter (which in my opinion is excessive and punitive). You may receive an internal audit letter or demand, or a letter from Autodesk's law firm of choice - DONAHUE FITZGERALD a copyright powerhouse law firm in the San Francisco Bay area.
