September 2020 Update: Open notice to software publishers. I am seeing a lot of very aggressive tactics in software licensing and compliance enforcement despite the widespread Coronavirus. Despite best efforts to settle many cases, the software publishers and their legal counsel (most other than the Business Software Alliance which has been rather fair during these tough times), are continuing to hit hard seeking large software piracy demands for using unlicensed, illegal (crack codes), counterfeit, torrented software and we have even had one company threaten to send in an auditor into the companies place of business (apparently, they are not afraid to risk Covid to get an audit scan or audit results). Incredible. Here is an open letter for software publishers and their firms - PLEASE HAVE SOME DAMN MERCY THROUGH THIS INCREDIBLY TOUGH AND SCARY HEALTH AND FINANCIAL CRISIS.
"I am not sure if you are understanding the situation most companies are facing. People are struggling to get business, and stay in business. This is an important issue, of course, but the sense of timing on these cases could not be worse. I would ask SOFTWARE PUBLISHERS AND THEIR COPYRIGHT LAW FIRMS to have at least a minimal level of sensitivity during these extraordinary times. Threatening litigation (many times against current customers) only makes matters worse. There is a three-year statute of limitations on any case involving copyright infringement, and we are aware you are not waiving your rights in any way, but please give our clients some "breathing room" as these are good people doing the best they can right now to stay afloat from a business perspective and stay alive from a personal perspect."
