Vondran Legal® - Software Compliance and Licensing Disputes - Parametric Software Letters may soon follow.  Call us at (877) 276-5084 if you received what we affectionately refer to as "the love letter."

Software defense attorney

Introduction

It appears PTC (formerly Parametric Technology Corporation) software may be ramping up its software compliance enforcement efforts in the United States.  PTC is a large software company that has some expensive software offerings.  Vondran Legal® helps companies (from mom-and-pop) to large multi-national companies and individuals, resolve their disputes with a wide variety of software vendors, and we do this on an affordable basis.

PTC New Job Posting: Software Licensing Specialist

I recently noticed on LinkedIn that PTC is hiring for a "Senior Software Licensing Specialist":

"The Senior Software Licensing Specialist will execute advisory engagements to provide education and guidance around the proper use and management of PTC software. They will also conduct usage assessments to understand a customer's position with respect to their existing product entitlements and deployed PTC software. This customer-facing position will need to coordinate with a variety of internal and external contacts to obtain relevant data, validate and present assessment findings, negotiate fair resolutions, and close engagements in a timely and professional manner. As a representative of PTC, the individual will need to serve as a credible source for licensing knowledge and business practices."

This indicates, to me, as a software licensing and audit defense attorney, that PTC may be ramping up to enforce their IP copyrights against companies and individuals violating their terms of service and/or using pirated software (often times downloaded through torrents or via the internet).

Also, make sure you are not hiring a law firm with no experience in software copyright law.   Hiring an "over the top" litigation lawyer or a law firm that does not understand handling software licensing disputes can work against you.  Trust me on this one.  There are too many horror stories to discuss here.

What to do if you receive a letter from PTC

Since 2004, we believe that no other law firm in the United States has resolved as many software disputes as Vondran Legal®.  We have handled cases with the following companies (click on the link for videos and more resources):

  1. Microsoft
  2. Adobe
  3. Business Software Alliance ("BSA")
  4. Dassault/Solidworks
  5. Vero/Hexagon
  6. VB Conversion
  7. CNC/Mastercam
  8. Autodesk
  9. Bentley Software
  10. Software Compliance Group
  11. SIIA cases
  12. Others

We help companies, both small and large, and individuals, respond to audit requests, monetary demands, cease-and-desist letters, and software licensing litigation in federal courts.

If you receive a letter, don't panic, but also make sure NOT to contact them, begging for mercy as some people try to do.  This admits fault and liability for infringement typically.  Instead, preserve the evidence, and call us to discuss your case in confidence.  We can help map out a response strategy that seeks to quietly and amicably resolve your legal issue.

A federal copyright infringement lawsuit becomes a matter of public record.  This can hurt your business if a potential client Googles you and finds out you are a defendant in a lawsuit.

We offer low flat legal fees, so you know what you are paying.  We are experienced in this niche area of copyright law.
